Four to Score

- Janet Evanovich

GOODREADS BOOK BLURB:

Stephanie Plum, Trenton, New Jersey’s favorite pistol-packing, condom-carrying bounty hunter, is back – and on the trail of a revenge-seeking waitress who’s skipped bail. With the help of 73-year-old Grandma Mazur, ex-hooker Lula, a transvestite musician named Sally Sweet, and the all-too-hospitable, all-too-sexy Joe Morelli, Stephanie might just catch her woman. Then again, with more mishaps than there are exits on the Jersey Turnpike – including murders, firebombs, and Stephanie’s arch-rival bounty hunter chasing after the same fugitive – Stephanie better watch her back big-time if she wants to live to crack this case.

MY REVIEW:

enjoyable/easy to read:
3.5/5

This was a fun one. With new characters, a more nuanced criminal, and lots of twists and turns, not to mention some serious Morelli action (finally!).

There were so many plotlines in this edition, and they intermingled and travelled along together, keeping everything interesting. Sugar and Sally, Maxine and Eddie, Marge and Maxine’s mum, Leo and Betty, Joyce interfering at the worst possible moments, Stephanie and everyone (but especially Morelli…).

Excellent writing and the series keeps getting better and better. The development of the characters happens naturally, and this crazy ensemble of colourful people sound like they would be fun (albeit dangerous) to be around. Maybe if we could get them out of Jersey, they could be fun and crazy without the guns, death, and crime.
