Goodreads Book Blurb:

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

My Review:

enjoyable/easy to read:
Better than the Slammed series, there’s still too much teenage drama and too many relationship red flags to rate Hopeless any higher. I’m sorry, but saying that Holder is ‘passionate‘ does not excuse his actions, even after learning about his history with Sky. The ‘I live you‘ shit is so annoying and just further proof they’re too immature for the intensity of the relationship they’re creating.

There were some excellent moments here, probably overshadowed by the teenage instalove drama, but what worries me most is that there are another four books in this series when this book should be sufficient as a standalone – I’m not sure how much more we need from this story. I hope to be proven wrong, though, as I will read them all…

I first read this book in 2016, and I remember bits and pieces of it which could’ve contributed to the predictability. Still, I don’t think it’s affected my opinion – most people should be able to tell where this story is going pretty quickly. It’s an emotionally driven narrative that tells a big, complicated story. Maybe a little messily, but I did stay up until almost 3 am to finish it, so if nothing else, it’s a gripping story.
