While I did enjoy this trilogy and overarching story, this third book was slightly anticlimactic. For how much was accomplished and achieved, it all ran together into a monotony of battles and cities won. No one too important to the story ever felt like they could be in trouble and for what basically feels like a civil war (since the majority of it is based in the US), there doesn’t seem to be a lot of casualties.

I don’t think I ever got the character growth or development I needed to feel invested in these people and their struggle. I appreciate that the story did cover a lot of time and there was definitely more plot development than you would usually expect in three books; maybe if the plot had been spread out into more instalments it would have allowed for more time to delve into the characters and their families and their personal struggles and motivations.

This is a good trilogy with a lot of parallels to what is going on in the world today, I was just looking for more from the third book and didn’t feel it lived up to the potential of the entire series. A little too much world-building and not enough character development.
